Sitting on the floor for lessons makes learning very difficult, leading to poor note taking and discouragement all which contribute to children dropping out of school. Only the most resilient students make it through all eight years. At Mafunde there were no desks at the school when we visited in April. Students at Willington school Wimbledon were shocked to hear that students the same age sat on the floor to learn. They immediately held a sponsored event which raised enough funds for 100 desks
We had the pleasure to visit the schools to see the impact the desks had at three schools, Mafunde, Tapani and Chimwembe. These schools are all feeder schools to Hope, which we are partnering with, to assist them in improving attendance and academic performance.
