TO celebrate the last 10 years of supporting Mpemba School, a large, rural primary school with 1,500 students, Hope4Malawi has just completed a new three-classroom block. A great job by a local build team led by Ben, Hope4Malawi’s build manager.
Two hundred students can now work indoors at a desk rather than sitting on stones under the trees.
Mpemba School has gone from strength to strength in recent years, thanks to support from Hope4Malawi.
The charity’s first involvement at Mpemba was to build a kitchen in 2013 and start a feeding programme.
Over 4 million children have received meals at Hope4Malawi’s partner primary schools in the past 10 years. Feeding programmes encourage enrolment, improve wellbeing and keep more children attending school regularly.
In 2014, Hope4Malawi built, resourced and opened a library and a two-classroom block at the school, changing life chances for children and transforming Mpemba into a top-performing school.
Hope4Malawi also provides a librarian who encourages children to read and borrow books and assists teachers with reading activities.
No more sitting outside under the trees
The new classrooms will help children to concentrate better and write things down. Lessons can also now continue all year round and won’t have to stop when it rains or is too hot.
Vital build projects like this would not be possible without support and donations from Hope4Malawi’s partners, fundraisers and volunteers. A big thank you goes out to them for what has been achieved.
